Heritage Hollow
Heritage Hollow is named for the genetic treasures we tend: heritage breeds of poultry and livestock. These animals are the vital ancestors of modern agriculture, preserved through meticulous curation to ensure health, vigor, and genetic diversity.
Within this mission of preservation, we specialize in the rare and historic Leicester Longwool sheep. At Heritage Hollow, we are dedicated to the longevity of this storied breed, ensuring that every animal we raise meets the highest standards of health and breed purity. By marrying historical significance with modern breeding excellence, we provide our livestock a future as distinguished as their past.
The Leicester Longwool: A Presidential Favorite
Hailing from Britain, this was the first breed in history selectively bred for specific traits—lustrous wool and mild, high-quality meat. Their impact was so profound that George Washington himself imported them to Mount Vernon.
By the 1910s, their popularity nearly became their undoing; they were so frequently used to cross-breed and "improve" other sheep that purebred Leicester Longwools virtually disappeared from the United States. Thanks to the conservation efforts of Colonial Williamsburg, the breed was re-established in the 1990s. The flock at Heritage Hollow is proud to carry on that direct lineage.

Available Stock
Each year, we offer a select number of purebred, registered, and hand-raised sheep. We categorize our stock to ensure they find the right home:
Elite Breeding Stock: We only offer the finest and most genetically significant rams and ewes for breeding. In 2024, our entire inspected flock received top marks, including our standout ram, Napoleon.
Fiber Friends: Sheep that are not intended for breeding—typically wethers (castrated males)—are offered as "fiber friends." They are perfect for hobbyists and fiber artists looking for that signature Leicester Longwool luster, pasture pets, and due to their docile nature, great heritage breed ambassadors.
Ewes: We offer proven ewes and lambs of various ages to help others start or diversify their own conservation flocks.
